Unpaid for 8 Months, Female Government Officer Stages Begging Protest in Bihar’s Buxar

Buxar: In a striking act of protest, a woman government official in Bihar’s Buxar district sat outside her office with a begging bowl after allegedly not receiving her salary for the past eight months. The official, identified as Alpita Singh, works as a Rural Development Officer at the Brahmapur Block Office. The matter came to light after photographs of her protest went viral across social media platforms.

According to Alpita Singh, she has received only three months of salary during her 11-month tenure. She stated that despite carrying out her official duties diligently, the non-payment of salary for eight consecutive months has led to severe financial distress. To register her protest, she sat outside the Brahmapur Block Office with a begging bowl for two consecutive days.

She alleged that an internal dispute with the Brahmapur Block Development Officer (BDO) resulted in the withholding of her dues. Following the circulation of the protest images on social media, the Buxar district administration intervened in the matter and sought an explanation from the BDO regarding the non-payment.

The district administration affirmed that an employee’s salary cannot be withheld without following proper regulations and obtaining prior sanction from higher authorities. Officials added that necessary measures are being taken to resolve the issue and directives have been issued to ensure strict adherence to established government procedures.
